Why didn't Waarp implement PeSIT earlier?
PeSIT is a file transfer protocol widely adopted in France, notably by public and financial institutions such as the DGFIP, AIFE, CNAV, CNAF, CPAM, as well as many banks, insurance companies and mutual insurance companies. This protocol plays a key role in securing and standardizing interbank and administrative exchanges.
A decision motivated by the recommendations of RGI V2
Despite this massive adoption, Waarp had not until now integrated PeSIT into its offer. The main reason for this absence lies in the recommendations of the RGI V2 of January 12, 2016, which qualified PeSIT as an obsolete protocol. Because of this classification, it then seemed strategic for Waarp not to invest in a technology perceived as being at the end of its life cycle and destined to be gradually abandoned.
A reality on the ground different from the recommendations
However, although PeSIT was identified as obsolete by RGIV2, its use remained widespread. Many organizations did not follow these recommendations, largely because of the high costs and technical challenges of migrating to other protocols. The technical debt accumulated by these organizations made this transition extremely complex and, in many cases, unfeasible.
Faced with this observation, Waarp took into account the reality of the market and the pressing need to offer a solution to meet the requirements. It quickly became apparent that ignoring this demand went against the expectations of companies and institutions that still rely heavily on this protocol.
PeSIT in open source: a major step forward
Until now, there was no open source implementation of PeSIT. Aware of this gap and wanting to offer an alternative to proprietary solutions, Waarp decided to develop and publish a PeSIT library under GPLV3 license. After several months of significant technical and functional efforts to implement the specifications, this integration was born within Waarp Gateway.
This initiative represents a decisive turning point for companies and administrations dependent on PeSIT. By proposing an open source implementation, Waarp offers a transparent, accessible and sustainable solution, allowing organizations to continue their exchanges while freeing themselves from the constraints linked to proprietary solutions.
Conclusion
The initial decision not to implement PeSIT was based on a strategic analysis of official recommendations and the market trajectory. However, the persistence of PeSIT and the lack of viable alternative solutions led Waarp to review its position. By developing an open source implementation, Waarp provides a concrete response to the needs of many structures.
